2013 Summer Meetings and Field Trips (Information Updated)

The Missouri Native Plant Society Summer Meeting and Field Trips will be held June 14-16, 2013 in and around Salem, Missouri. Our Meetings will be held in the Bank of Salem Meeting Room in Salem. In addition to our quarterly Board Meeting, we will also hold our Annual Membership Meeting and present the annual MONPS Awards. Please join us! Our Field Trips will include some of the best fen communities left in unglaciated North America.

2013 Spring Meeting and Field Trips

ATTENTION: If you will be attending our Spring Board Meeting and Field Trips this coming weekend, please view the latest updated information at the links provided and print any materials you wish to bring with you.

When: April 12-14, 2013
Where: Big Sugar Creek State Park (McDonald County)
Our spring meeting and field trips will be in and around Big Sugar Creek State Park. Located in southwest Missouri in the Elk River Section of the Ozarks Natural Division, Big Sugar Creek State Park features a variety of plants and animals that are less common or absent further into Missouri. This watershed drains south into the Arkansas River Basin, whereas most other Ozark rivers drain north and east into the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Our headquarters will be the Boonslick Lodge in Jane, Missouri (see location and contact information in the Motel section of the links below).

2012 Winter Board and Field Trip Planning Meeting

Winter Board Meeting – December 1, 2012

The Winter Board Meeting and Field Trip Planning Session will be held December 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Dunn-Palmer Herbarium of the University of Missouri, in Columbia Missouri. Anyone interested in helping us decide the locations for the 2013 MONPS Board meetings and botany field trips is invited to come. Coffee and refreshments will be served. We will order lunch and work until adjournment (approximately 2:00-2:30 PM).

Directions:
From the West:
Take exit 125 for I-70 BUS toward West Blvd 0.2 mi
Slight right onto Business Loop 70 E 1.6 mi
Turn right onto N College Ave 2.1 mi
Continue onto Rock Quarry Rd 0.2 mi

Turn left onto Grindstone Pkwy/E New Haven Rd

2012 Fall Meeting and Field Trips

When: September 28-30, 2012
Where: Cuivre River State Park (Troy, MO)
Our fall meeting and field trips will be in and around Cuivre River State Park. Located in the Lincoln Hills, the park represents an island of Ozark-like habitat which escaped most of the effects of the last glacial event that shaped the rest of northern Missouri. Our headquarters will be the Super 8 Motel in Troy, Missouri (see location and contact information in the Motel section of the links below).

The Super 8 is located on Turnbull Road, which is the first right turn west of Highway 61 at the Troy exit (Hwy 47).

Our summer meetings and field trips will be in and around two of Missouri’s best-loved and most beautiful State Parks, Ha Ha Tonka and Lake of the Ozarks. Our headquarters will be the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Osage Beach, Missouri (see location and contact information in the Motel section of the links below).

Directions:
US 54 Westbound, hotel located 2 miles past Glaize Bridge.

MONPS Saint Louis Chapter January Meeting

WHEN: 7:30 pm, Weds 26 January 2011

WHERE: Powder Valley Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood, MO

Starting at the intersection of I-270 & I-44, travel east on I-44 a short distance//take the Watson Road exit lane. As soon as possible take the left turn lane when approaching Geyer Road.

Turn left(north) on Geyer Road. Travel less than 0.2 mile on Geyer Road and turn left(west) on to Cragwold Road(the first road on the left after crossing the I-44 overpass).

Travel west on Cragwold Road about 0.8 miles - to the entrance to Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center on the right.

Turn right and follow the road 0.4 mile to the Nature Center parking area.

Meeting rooms are in the large building on the west side of the parking lot. Entrance is via the southeast corner of this building. . The main lobby visitor entrance at the center of the complex is closed after 5 pm.

MONPS members find over 70 Eastern Prairie Fringed Orchids and a Wood Lily on a prairie in northern Missouri on a weekend when flooding made navigation tricky.
